This is a nucleus colony for top bar hives. The length of our bars are 19 inches. They will fit into a langstroth hive body, but are optimal for top bar hives such as the Beepods Beekeeping System. The bars can easily be cut down in length to accommodate smaller top bar hives.

Optionally, you can purchase the actual top bar nuc hive box in which these bees are currently being raised.  The nuc box doubles as a harvest box, which is great for storing your bars that are full of honey, catching swarms, or transporting your bees.

A nucleus colony is where we keep your bees for 1 to 2 months and give them love, attention, and lots of food. We ensure your bees get a good start so they are ready for transfer into your Beepod right on the comb.  We rate each nuc and give you a head start by understanding the viability of the queen’s genetics and how prolific the colony will be when installed at their new home.

All you need to do is decide if you want only want the colony and the comb ($400) or if you want the whole thing: the colony, the comb AND the hive box ($620). If only the colony and comb is purchased and you already own a Beepods nuc box / harvest box, Beepods will trade your existing harvest box in for a new harvest box free of charge (we would just need to ensure the same number of bars are exchanged in the process). If no bars will be returned to us during the exchange, an additional $25 fee will be assessed).  

This can be a better choice for beekeepers who are just getting started with beekeeping.

Nucleus colonies are only available for pickup and delivery in Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
