new beekeeper
I am looking to get started with my first hive in spring and was wondering if anyone had tips about certification I will need and the most important things I should be working on over the winter. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I'm CharBee
Welcome to the Beepods site. I'm CharBee, one of the founders of Beepods. I live minutes north of Milwaukee in Wisconsin and have been keeping bees for seven years. I caught the buzz while marketing for Growing Power. While photo-journaling all the operations there I was lured up-close to the bees by Michael Thompson of the Chicago Honey Co-op who got me to change-out my telephoto lens for a wide-angle closeup one as I joined him next to an open hive.
Next I knew I was learning from Jesse Spanaus, Growing Power's first beekeeper and I caught the buzz. Soon I was helping Jesse teach beekeeping at Growing Power and I went from one- two -three hives at home. Got as many as 10 in one year but mites wiped out 8 that winter. So now I have one Beepod and one Langstroth.
